Appointment Gorgi Krlev joins German ministry advisory board for social innovation

The professor of sustainability was invited to an international expert committee to advise the Ministry of Education and Research on the implementation and further development of social innovations.

Germany’s Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has convened an international Advisory Board for Social Innovations, which began its work in November 2023. “With the new international advisory board, we bring together the brightest minds from all over the world to inspire social innovations in Germany,” said Zarah Bruhn, who is the Commissioner for Social Innovations as well as the chairwoman of the advisory board. “Social innovations are of course part of a modern, sustainable innovation country like Germany,” added Federal Research Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger. “Creative and entrepreneurial solutions are essential to overcoming major societal challenges.”

I look forward to contributing based on my research and impact work

“It is about time we really strengthen the ecosystem for social innovation in Germany by merging perspectives from across the globe and bringing together startups, finance, welfare, social enterprise, policy, civil society and science,” commented Gorgi Krlev, who is one of eighteen high-ranking experts from business, science and civil society. With their wealth of experience and knowledge, they advise the BMBF on the implementation and further development of the National Strategy for Social Innovations and Companies Oriented to the Common Good. The establishment of an international advisory board to strengthen networking and visibility is one of around 70 measures decided by the federal cabinet in September.

“It was a delight to engage with the other Council members during our first meeting at the Falling Walls Science Summit 2023 in Berlin, and of course to work with a fantastic group promoting change in and through the ministries,” added Gorgi Krlev, who believes in the power of research-practice transfer. “I look forward to contributing based on my research and impact work surrounding social entrepreneurship and innovation, cross-sector collaboration, societal transformations, sustainability, and impact measurement.”
