Gorgi earned a PhD from the University of Oxford and has previously worked as a senior researcher at the University of Heidelberg. In his research, he deals with social entrepreneurship, social innovations and impact, with a particular focus on how cross-sector collaborations and new field emergence promote societal transformations and contribute to addressing environmental and social sustainability challenges.
His open access book Social Innovation: Comparative Perspectives received the 2019 best book award from the Public and Nonprofit Division of the Academy of Management (AOM). His new book Social Economy Science: Transforming the Economy & Making Society More Resilient will be published by Oxford University Press in 2023.
Gorgi developed the massive open online course Accelerating Investment Readiness (#AirMOOC), which was awarded for its impact on societal stakeholders and established TRANSFORM, a collaborative, open-source platform on innovation and entrepreneurship for sustainability. In 2021, Gorgi won the 1. Prize of the Roman Herzog Institute (RHI). The prize recognized his research on social impact measurement as an innovative contribution to the social market economy. In 2022, he won the Civil Society Research Impact Award of the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) for his contribution to putting social innovation and social entrepreneurship on the German policy agenda.
Gorgi serves on the Board of Directors of Euclid Network, the international network of impact-driven leaders supported by the European Commission.
