In May 2022, ESCP Business School London Campus students took part in the Hackney Half Marathon organised as part of the annual Hackney Moves Festival.

The three-day celebration took place from Friday 20th May to Sunday 22nd May and is one of the highlights of London's running calendar. This was an unforgettable weekend of motion, sport and entertainment, where culture and movement met.

Our students got to experience the electric atmosphere of the Hackney Half. This carefully planned route showcased the best that East London has to offer: the historic Broadway Market and spirited street art. With live bands and entertainment, the race turned into a vibrant and lively festival.

The ESCP team was represented by two students from the ESCP MSc in Real Estate, one from ESCP MSc in Marketing & Digital Media and one from the ESCP MSc in Hospitality & Tourism Management.

All year round, ESCP London Campus sponsors and supports its students to participate and get involved in events that are unique to London, and promote physical activity and mental wellbeing.

Students have been competing against other business schools in tournaments as part of the BUCS London University Sports Leagues, and running for charities close to their hearts such as the Adidas City Run and the Cancer Research London Winter Run supported by ESCP’s CheerUp! London Society, who fundraise each year to help beat cancer.

ESCP London Campus students proudly took part in the Hackney Half Marathon, which aimed to be the largest UK race without single-use plastic. Over 27,000 runners registered for the Hackney Half and Hackney 5k. With ever-growing numbers of participants, the challenge to put sustainability at the core of such events is real and worthwhile.

Sustainability is one of the core pillars of ESCP Business School's vision and strategy, and it is being integrated across its educational activities, research and internal processes. The School’s mission is to educate purpose-driven leaders able to tackle the unprecedented environmental and social challenges that societies and economies are facing.

Testimonials

Alexis Guerra, a student of MSc in Marketing and Digital Media, shared: "I am very happy to have been able to run as an ESCP student. This race is a personal achievement for me and a great way to discover another part of London that is less visited by tourists."

"A huge thank you to ESCP for giving us the opportunity to represent the School in this sporting event. Not only did we manage to finish the race but also to beat our previous times recorded during our first semester at ESCP Madrid. All in all a fantastic day!" commented Edouard Barrois, a student of the MSc in Real Estate.

Baptiste Vittupier from the MSc in Real Estate said: "A sunny day, with good vibes and fresh legs seems to have been the perfect recipe for me to beat my personal best time, finishing the race in 1 hour and 24 minutes and ranking 11th in my age category. I'm proud to have represented ESCP during this event and I look forward to preparing for my next challenge in June, the Paris Triathlon."

"What better way to discover the city of London than by running a half marathon? A very encouraging public, an incredible organisation and a fantastic race. It was a very high-level event and I'm really proud to have been able to represent ESCP with my classmates!" said Arthur Le Cossec from the MSc in Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Professor Kamran Razmdoost, the Dean of ESCP Business School London Campus, congratulated the team of four: "Congratulations to our students who showed their commitment, determination and hard work by successfully completing the Hackney Half Marathon. This shows our students' appetite to utilise opportunities and challenges in different cities when they join different campuses. It also has a particular meaning for our MSc in Real Estate students, showing their deep awareness and engagement with the built environment in a short period of time. Well done, you made us proud."
